A new release of Neos is coming soon. It will be version 8.3 and will be the next release with Long-Term Support.

Open source is more than just free code. It's a community-driven approach to software development that values collaboration and innovation. Anyone can contribute to an open-source project, not just through writing code, but also by testing, bug-fixing, localizing, and providing feedback. Open source empowers individuals and organizations to work together towards a common goal, leveraging the collective intelligence and creativity of its community.

Neos, as an open-source CMS and framework, embodies this spirit by encouraging community participation in all aspects of the project. By embracing open source, we can build better software, strengthen our skills, and make a positive impact on the world around us.

Improving Neos 8.3

With each release, there are many tasks that do not involve writing code. Recently, we started a call to action in our forum and asked what would help you in Neos. What would make your life easier? And there were some great ideas generated during the brainstorming session in the forum. Not all of them are easy to implement, so some may not be included in Neos 8.3. However, everyone who commented on the thread has contributed and helped move the project forward.

The ideas were discussed during the recent sprint, and we are trying to implement four of them in 8.3, although time is a relevant factor for two of them.

If anyone wants to try to implement one of the ideas, please go ahead. We can also attempt to provide support. The message is clear: open source is not just something that can be used or reviewed, it can also be lived and contributed to. This improves the product, enhances personal development, and ultimately results in a better solution for one's own project.

Even small contributions can make a difference. We are having a photo contest for this release again. The winning image will be the new login wallpaper for Neos 8.3.

Make Neos understandable for everyone

Perhaps you are good at languages? When we build new features in Neos, new language labels are created. We always try to offer them in as many languages as our team can cover, but there are still more languages out there. Therefore, you can help improve Neos even without programming by contributing to better localization.

Neos is committed to making its CMS and framework accessible to users around the world, which is why we rely on localization to provide a seamless experience for our international users. To achieve this, we use a platform called Weblate, which allows our community members to easily translate Neos' labels and messages into various languages. This collaborative approach to localization enables us to expand our reach and build a more diverse and inclusive community. By utilizing Weblate, Neos can provide a better user experience for all, regardless of language or location.

Try out new features and be curious

Neos 8.3 will be released on April 24, 2023, and features can still be contributed to the release until April 3, 2023. After this date, we'll shift our focus to rounding out the existing 8.3 release, including rigorous testing of new features with test projects to identify and fix any potential bugs. By taking these measures, we hope to ensure that Neos 8.3 provides the highest level of performance and stability possible, providing a more satisfying user experience for all. We invite all members of the community to participate in this effort and help us make Neos 8.3 the best it can be.

Involving members of the community in this testing process can be particularly helpful, as they can offer different perspectives and use cases that we may have missed. Ultimately, this collaborative approach helps us to create a more robust, effective, and user-friendly product that meets the needs of as many users as possible. So, let's be curious, try out new releases, and work together to make open-source better for everyone.
