About the project
The EULE learning area is an e-learning platform that Sandstorm built for the German Institute for Adult Education (DIE) on the Neos CMS. It supports the self-directed professional development of teaching staff and enables the creation and distribution of multimedia self-learning content using Learning Locker and a recommendation system. Multiple editors can maintain the learning content in parallel, while the implemented SCORM standard ensures content is played back to spec.
E-learning with Neos CMS
As part of the project, we designed and developed the platform. This included the technical architecture, the integration of the selected standard software components via interfaces we developed ourselves, the connection of databases for data collection for scientific analysis, and the development of the web application based on the Neos content management system, which enables navigation through the learning paths. Furthermore, components were implemented that can deliver learning content in accordance with the SCORM standard and conduct learning assessments in accordance with the H5P standard. This means that any compatible learning content can be integrated via the platform.
About the agency
Sandstorm is a software agency based in Dresden with a team of 35, specialising in bespoke software, apps and websites. For us, sustainability means resource-conscious, durable and repairable software without customer lock-in thanks to open source, developed with accessibility, user autonomy and security in mind. One of our particular strengths lies in the open-source CMS Neos, to which several Sandstormies contribute (Neos Community Award 2026). We were awarded the Saxon Digital Prize 2022 and were finalists for the German Sustainability Prize 2025. Our clients include 1&1, WeTell, Solarwatt and TU Dortmund.
