Neos Foundation
Neos 8.4
- The release team (Markus Günther, Sebastian Helzle, Marc Henry Schultz) is hard at work to deliver the new version in October with various helpful features and helpers to already prepare your Neos project for a Neos 9 upgrade at a later date.
Project News: “Improve Editing UX for Neos 9.1”
- In September Marc Henry Schultz worked a lot on the simplification and integration of the new link editor into the Neos.Ui, which means we are also soon ready to merge the first version.
- First feedback and iterations with community members already lead to huge improvements in terms of usability and complexity for daily workflows.

- After several feedback rounds and discussions Sebastian Helzle further worked on the editing related node toolbars and how the current selection is shown.
- The CKEditor inline toolbar got further style improvements and we enabled a few more features like the possibility to configure custom styles that can be applied to text.
- The old NodeToolbar is now blue and on the top right of the selected node, showing its label and icon and provides a extensible contextual menu with the copy, cut, hide buttons.
- The add and paste buttons are now positioned above, middle or below the selected node so you can already set the intended insert position, skipping the insert dialog in case of pasting a node, or skipping the mode selection in case of adding a new node.
- With a planned smarter Add button, we will be able to skip the creation dialog for many cases completely!
- We removed the “Current selection” from the inspector and replaced its functionality with a breadcrumb positioned above the editing area where the formatting options used to be.
- The little known fullscreen mode was made much more usable with the breadcrumb and by allowing the inspector to be opened without leaving this mode.

- This improvement project was only made possible with additional sponsorships and supporter tickets sold for NeosCon 2025 and contributors who also invest a lot of their own time and motivation.
- Thanks again also to all the people giving feedback during demonstrations, meetings and who wrote down their thoughts in discussions and issues in the past.
- Remember to join #guild-ux in Slack to give feedback and become a part of this project ❤️
Thank you for reading our monthly and have a great October and keep on contributing and spreading the Neos message!
