What's NEOS in September 2026

Hey Neos Community!

We are a bit late with this monthly, but the delayed though really beautiful Neos 9.2 stable release had priority 🥳
As many code based brushstrokes went into finishing Neos 9.2, the community members were also using their minds and digital brushes to create many amazing new packages and updates.

Community highlights

These are some of the most active and interesting discussions in the Neos community last month:

Funding Request: Path-based queries – Denny Lubitz proposes replacing the content repository's recursive CTE queries with path-based queries (benchmarks show up to 97% faster subtree and ancestor reads) and the community approved the €4,000 funding request.
Neos Sprint Hamburg, November 9-13th 2026 – the November sprint at the Sitegeist office collected new topic ideas in September, including ACL for the UI and CR, workspace change reviews, PostgreSQL support and query performance.
Neos Conference 2027 – New Concept 2nd track – Marika Hauke presents the new hands-on second track for NeosCon 2027: unrecorded fishbowl discussion sessions, and a call for moderators and topic ideas.
MenuItem state is always 'null' – why menu item states are null in Neos 9 by default, and how calculateItemStates or a small client-side script solve highlighting active menu entries.

We had some more Neos 9.2 Beta releases, which now, as the monthly has been released a bit later than usual, have been replaced with the actual stable Neos 9.2 release 🚀

- First stable release, for Neos 8.3 and PHP 8.2+ with Neos 9 support planned for a separate major release.

- Integrates Meilisearch into Neos.
- Major release bringing Neos 9 support, plus a zero-downtime nodeindex:rebuild, batched document indexing that caps fulltext size to prevent out-of-memory kills, an autosuggest controller, and filterable/sortable attributes now configured as maps (breaking – check the changelog before upgrading).

- Connects the Kaleidoscope.ValueObjects with LostInTranslation so alt and title will get translated automatically.
- Ensures HTML entities are correctly encoded and decoded when value objects are translated.

- Automatic content translations for Neos using the DeepL Api
- Adds support for encoding and decoding plain text, so translations can be carried through plain-text encoding/decoding automatically.

- Image helper for Neos CMS
- The placeholder image moves into the settings, the legacy Internet Explorer scripts are gone ("IE is dead") and the package gets a minimal build setup with rendered files.

- Synchronize Elasticsearch indices from a remote Neos instance to local
- Adds support for Elasticsearch instances with security enabled, so secured clusters can now be synced too.
medienreaktor/meilisearch 2.13.0
- Integrates Meilisearch into Neos.
- Fixes indexing driven by persisted requests: imports that persist after every node no longer write one Meilisearch task per node, which previously let the task queue grow until the Meilisearch host ran out of memory. Buffering now carries over between persisted requests and the last buffer is written when Flow shuts the indexer down.
neosidekick/markdown-for-agents v1.5.0
- Markdown rendering for AI agents in Neos CMS
- Only GET requests are now allowed on the markdown format endpoint.
flownative/google-cloudstorage v6.2.0
- This Flow package allows you to store assets (resources) in Google Cloud Storage and publish resources to GCS.
- Adds support for private buckets and fixes signed persistent resource URIs.

- The icon select editor for Neos Studio: pick an SVG icon from configured icon source directories. Registers as Medienreaktor.IconSelectEditor/Editor.
